Four Days After the Fall . . .

Snow makes whiteness where it falls.
The bushes look like popcorn balls.
And places where I always play,
Look like somewhere else today.
-Marie Louise Allen

PLACES

You can tell we don't get much snow in Georgia by all the amateur photos that have been brandished around on FB and local blogs. For the record, all that stuff that looks like snow is covered with a hard icy glaze, nearly impossible to walk on. I don't ever remember a snowfall like this in Decatur. These photos were taken today in the yard, a full four days after the storm. Some melt has begun, but it is still very icy. Tomorrow will mark the fifth day schools have been closed. Somehow, the ice didn't stick to the trees, so we've not lost electrical power. For us, it's been a quiet, warm, and cozy four days, though I know it's not been as easy for everyone. Good time to curl up with a good book, and I had one of the best. Cutting for Stone, by Abraham Verghese. Luscious. dkm

Sun, snow, shadows - stunning! Frogs are clearly a favourite? It looks like a very welcoming garden, even under snow - so many places to sit. That's your house in the first photo? Lovely design :-)

Hee hee---that frogs have collected in my garden is more accidental than anything else---they are a byproduct of nearly thirty years of teaching first grade---gifts from students. Inside the house are significant collections of apples and Santa Clauses as well :-), and I've not bought a single one. Each represents a special little person or family or class.

Yes that's our house of 16 years. If I had taken photos of ALL the places to sit outside, you'd think that's all I do---and you'd be pretty close to right. I just counted them in my head. A shameful 14! Most of them are discards picked up off the street or at yard sales--or gifts. The rust colored swing (third photo) was built by my brother, and is where I'm most often found.

There are lots of wonderful patterns in these photos, accentuated by the sun and shadow.

I think you might be encouraging me to develop more seating spots in my garden. I tend to spend too much time working in it and not enough time sitting!

Which brings us back to the discussion on your blog . . . being all about balance . . .

Oh I would just love to flop down in that snow :o) The heat and wind here has been ghastly.

Gorgeous frogs and duck! We have about 40 ducklings strutting around here. P.G not impressed! He'd be happier if they were garden ornaments instead. :o)) But they're just so cute!

Heat and live ducklings! Our lives are a study of contrasts :-)

Very cool pictures--fascinated that Georgia would get so much snow! It's nice to see it like this--all piled up, clean, kind of creamy--we have lots of watery, ice rink-style conditions here. Thanks for posting the pictures!
